Our 2017 Future Foundations careers event took place on Thursday 21st September. The event was being run for a third year after previous events had proved very successful.
This year over 26 post 16 providers from around the North-West including sixth form centres, colleges, apprenticeship opportunities and representatives from the police and army turned out to offer career advice, course information and discuss opportunities within many sectors.
All students from Year groups 7 through to 11 took turns to visit the school sports hall which had been turned into an exhibition space for the day. They were able to find out what opportunities are available, collect information from providers and chat and ask questions in an informal setting.
The main focus of the event was to raise the aspirations of the students at Siddal Moor, and more importantly, engage the current year 11 with the next phase of their education for when they leave next year. This event is held at a key time for our Key stage 4 students, however inviting Key Stage 3 students has proved a positive move, driving their aspirations as they look forward to exciting futures.
Parents were also invited to attend, and many took the opportunity to see what career paths are available for their child.
Students were also invited to take part in a host of hands on activities arranged by the providers including the art of stage make-up, creative activities and handling a number of different species of animals, including spiders, snakes, guinea pigs and rabbits from Hopwood Hall College's Life Science Centre.
The response was very positive and we feel many students came away learning something new about their potential career path for life after Siddal Moor.
